On 10 April 1912, The RMS Titanic a Luxary cruise ship of its time called “Ship of Dreams” carried 2,240 passengers and made its first and last voyage. This Journey would tragically become the most infamous disaster in the Ship’s history.

The ship build with all that evolved technology of that Era and the people who designed it thought that the ship is virtually “UNSINKABLE”.

Titanic Iceberg Collision

On the night of 14 April 1912, Despite getting a large iceberg warning from other surrounding ships the Titanic was heading towards the Ocean dangers. The ocean is very still and silent and because of No moon at that time the night was so dark.
At 11:40 PM, the ship’s employee spotted a big black shadow kind of iceberg and the Titanic was moving towards it at full speed. The authority captain and the crew made their best efforts to steer the Titanic ship away from the iceberg but it was too late. The Titanic scratches the Iceberg from its right side which punctures the steel hull of the Titanic.

The Titanic is called UNSINKABLE because of its Water Tight Compartment Structure which is designed to prevent flooding in emergencies making it bear a 4-compartment water load capacity and still Titanic can float in water.

The Titanic got the huge ice berg scratch in its 5 water tight compartments, as the front compartment getting filled with icey water the Ship began to sink and soon it was clear that the Titanic was going to bottom of sea at that cold night.
As the ship sank deeper into the sea from the front side the ship propellers started to rise high in the air and at 2:30 AM Icey night the Titanic Broke apart into two parts and sank into the deep sea.

The Wreck of the Titanic lying undiscovered at the depths of the sea for 73 years and it was finally discovered in 1985, the discovery of the Titanic led to many theories and new documentation about Titanic’s maiden voyage which Questions human failure and how Titanic can be saved at that point of time when Iceberg was seen by the Captian Crew.

If the Titanic Collides Head-on will it be Saved?

From my perspective, A head-on collision will result in damage to the front of the ship which is already designed with high-strength steel plating to stand out the frontal impacts. Also, if the first few water-tight compartments got crushed from a front-side collision still the Titanic would stay afloat as it could bear the four-compartment flood. The water ingestion is more manageable as compared to the huge side scratch damage to the ship. Hence the crew got more time to stabilize the situation, and proper rescue evacuation thus increasing the number of survivors.

Since Titanic could remain afloat long enough even if its 4 compartments were intensively hampered by the Collision there is a possibility that the Titanic can be towed to safety. Even if the ship going to sink then an extended time frame and stability of the ship could reduce the Loss of Life compared to actual tragedy.

History of Ship’s Head-on Collision

The engineers support this theory that head-on collision is less disastrous and the overall chances of survival for the ship as well as the passengers could be high. In 1956, Ships like Stockholm survived and were rescued to safety even after a massive head-on collision.

Conclusion

It’s impossible to know the exact situation of the Titanic ship’s speed, and angle of momentum and also the amount of time the crew have to make the best decision. The documents and evidence about the Titanic suggest that if the Titanic collided Head-on with the iceberg the disaster could have been handled and the ship could remain afloat with all the passengers safely.

This Tragedy showcase many leason to the world which led to many major law reforms and technology build to enhance the marine safety with improved life boat count on the ship.
This show how the timely decisions can have the better consequences and future of life.
